How to decide on the itinerary on CNY for new couples/newlyweds

Chinese New Year is a time where you have to visit multiple families. When the couple has to visit both sides of the family on the limited two days that are public holidays, it really needs some planning. If not, be prepared for some quarrels. 1. Do up a schedule of how you and your partner usually spend your 1st and 2nd day of CNY, preferably a week before CNY itself. 2. Compare the schedules to see if you can fit both your schedules in. Chances are no if both of you have big families (Like PL and I *horror*) 2. Circle those which are compulsory. Eg. Elders or those families who would disown you if you don't visit them. 3. Skip those whom you are going to see on other days of CNY if the schedules are too packed. 4. Allow for travelling time, especially if you are travelling from one side to the other side of the island. 5.  After planning the schedule, seek parents for advice. Parents will always have their own quirky ways of thinking that no one can fathom. 6. N

Debunking the myth: 20 Reasons Tall Guys are the best

http://thoughtcatalog.com/madison-moore/2014/01/20-reasons-tall-guys-are-the-best/ Copied out for easy referencing =D 1. Around a hot tall guy, you get to wear heels with reckless abandon without worrying that you will tower over him! But I don't even wear heels! :( 2. They are born knowing how to pick you up and throw you on a bed :p agree with this fully 3. When you are near a hot tall guy, you feel safe, like nothing can happening to you because other people are intimidated by tall people. Nah, this doesn't happen. He only attracts more attention because his head is sticking out in the crowd. It's easier to spot him when you are looking for him though. 4. You feel safe when they hug you, and your height matches theirs in such a way that your ear hits their heart and you can hear it beat. Erm, in Singapore, it's too hot to hug this tightly. Steam might just come out from the ears. 5. When they hug you from behind they can rest their chin on your head and

HY3252 - From Tropical Medicine to Biomedical Science

A private comment on Google+ made me thought of writing this. =P I took this module in 2011 with Dr John DiMoia as the lecturer. He is a very quirky fun guy to have as a lecturer and he showed us quite a few videos during the lectures to perk us up =D Of course, everyone wants to know how the workload is like for this module. I feel that there is not much readings compared to the other history modules (but it might still be overwhelming for people from other faculties Idk) I enjoyed going for the lectures very much and some of the tutorials are spent outside of school where we toured biopolis and TCM in AH. Maybe that's why I don't remember much about his tutorials. Haha. Unlike Peter Borschberg's lessons where answering questions is a terror in itself. Okays I admit that was not a hardworking student. The exam questions are quite cool in in my opinion. I remembered doing a question that was remotely like this, "Imagine yourself being transported to a hospit

Japan Nikko Okukinu Kaniyu Onsen Trip December 2011

We travelled to Okukinu, Nikko for the Kaniyu Onsen trip. It was a gruelling day where we had to wait up early in the morning to catch the 6.20am? train to Nikko. Truth to be told, everyone of us were very amazed by the cold, and the braveness of young girls who bare their legs in winter. Cold~~ Girls with mini-skirts. Zai~ As we got there very early, we went to the shrines in Nikko before heading back to shimoimaichi station to wait for the bus pickup to the onsen. We spent the whole morning visiting the temples (Toshogu Shrine, Futarasan Shrine, Rinnoji Temple, Shinkyo Bridge) and having a super quick lunch before rushing off for our train. That was very scary... The 2 and 1/2 hr van/bus journey was peaceful and awesome. We were the only foreigners in the van, and since the Japanese couldn't speak English, I had to translate roughly for the rest. It was the first time seeing snow, and as the van moves higher and higher up the mountain, I could see the snow falling

Review: Triniti Hotel Batam 25-26th Jan 2014

I'm officially sick of Batam. Lol. This time round, we tried Triniti Hotel which is near Nagoya Mall. It is located two streets behind The Spa Secret. There is a Futsal court situated just in front of the hotel, and it is located in a very quiet neighbourhood. When we reached the hotel, we were quite taken aback by the ulu-ness of it. And it didn't look impressive to us. It looks like a rundown hotel, where construction is unfinished. And the ulu location didn't help much. There was no sign saying that it is Triniti Hotel, but the Triniti spa has a big signboard with no one in sight. I saw the reviews online saying that it was a very dark walk from Nagoya Mall back to the hotel at night, and I agree with it. There is this stretch of road which is unlit at night, so it was quite scary if you are intending to watch a late night movie before heading back to the hotel. It was also one of the rare times that I saw PL pissed at the staff. The receptionist checked us i

How not to get rip off in Batam

I'm going Batam tomorrow again!! Okays, this is probably the first Batam trip of the year, but I have been to Batam 3 to 4 times last year? I was looking through all the old information and photos and I realised something: We always get rip off by people! So these are the things that we need to take note of: 1. Take taxis away from the touts (those hanging around the hotels - they always charge 10,000 - 20,000 rupiah extra) 2. Always try to speak in Bahasa Indonesia or Malay (They will be friendlier and not charge so much if you attempt to speak in their language) 3. Make sure that you know their pricing before you bargain with them. If you tell them you are from Singapore, prepare to be tok by them. 4. Always ask for steamed food. If you tell them you want your stuff to be fried, they will be sure to give you lousy quality stuff (especially for seafood) 5. Don't eat at fast food outlets! I know there is A&W there, but seriously, the food there sucks. Try Ma

CNY healthy Yusheng!

This is probably a year late but I thought that a fruit yusheng is healthy! You see the white long strips of stuff? They are pear slices!! It was my first time eating this kind of fruit yusheng and it tastes super good! Unlike the usual yusheng that has all those radish bits with all that syrup on it. EWW... This was awesome! And without the honey, and whatever stuff, it is yummy enough. Of course, if you want to indulge yourself with more sweet stuff, you can add them in. *tip* soak them lightly in salt water. Or if you are going to rinse them with honey anyway, soak them in a mixture of honey and water :)

World UNESCO Sites that I have been to before

1)       The Great Wall of China This is one place where I bet most of the people have been to. The tour agencies especially love to bring the tourists there, and the PRCs can then rip the tourists. I was lucky enough to have Yuxi’s uncle drive us to this ulu part of the Great Wall of China , and you can read the rest of it here if you are interested. 2)       Houryuji I was quite surprised to see that it is listed as one of the UNESCO sites. I wasn’t too awed by this place, besides the fact that the deers keep asking for more senbei from me. 3)       Mount Wu Tai After watching all the weird Chinese Kungfu dramas, I was quite happy to go to Mount Wu Tai. It is a Buddhist place where many devotees go to pray. I uh.. didn’t pray much except when we are doing the turns around the mountain in the car. The taxi driver could have won the F1 race if he had competed. Vegetarian food there is in abundance, and all the restaurants that I saw (and eaten at) separate out the

Chupitos at Clarke Quay for birthday celebration

It was my first time at Chupitos despite hearing a lot of good things about it. So, on a Friday night at around 8pm, we headed over there to make our friend drunk. The shots were quite quirky and interesting, with all the local names added into the lists. We had a blasted time as the guys were drowning the shots. They ordered paddle pop, milo godzilla, fire bomb, condom and a bunch of other stuff that I don't remember. I only remembered that the bill came up to 200+ for not too many drinks so it was a tad too expensive for my taste.  It seems like it is a good place to go to for a hen's night as there was one party going on later in the evening where the female has to drink from a fake penis. Quite a cool concept.

An unexpected encounter at JB Taman Sri Tebrau

As usual, PL and I will go over to JB to have our monthly fuel top-up. This time round, we went in a little late, and we even caught a movie, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. After the movie, we went over to Taman Sri Tebrau and when we were walking towards the hawker centre, I saw Val! Holy Shit. The world is just too damn small. And the best part was that PL also saw his poly coursemate, Wei Xiong. And they are working in the same company! @@ Life can be just so funny~ We ate dinner with them, and it cost just RM33 each, very cheap considering that we ordered crayfish as well as stingrays and mussels. The jam to Malaysia was quite bad when we headed back to sg. But it was quite rare to see that Sri Tebrau was jam packed with vehicles. Most probably because we seldom eat there that late (we ended our dinner at almost 10.30pm?) Usually we were already back to sg by then.

Review: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Synopsis : A day-dreamer escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. When his job along with that of his co-worker are threatened, he takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined. I went to KSL City with PL to catch a movie as he had this urge for a movie. We decided upon this movie as he thought that it was not bad. The scenes were beautiful, especially those scenic views of the Himalayas. However, I felt that the plot lacked substance. Somehow, it is lacking that omph that makes people go gaga over it, even though the views are fanstastic.  The plot is mundane, as Walter Mitty tries to get a girl whom he likes to go out with him. His problem is that he zones out too much. One day, he lost a photograph that was supposed to appear on the magazine cover and he traveled all over the world to search for the man w

The thieves of faith by Richard Doetsch

Richard’s second book, The Thieves of Faith, is about St. Michael Pierre, who has lost his wife due to cancer, and because of her (and the influence of his friend, Genevieve), decided to retrace his roots and search for his family. Little did he know that he was going to be dragged back into the world of thievery and deception, where not just he, but his family and friends, was in peril. In this book, Julian Zevira, the leader of a (very rich cult) is looking for a mysterious box hidden somewhere deep in Russia , and he kidnapped Michael’s father to blackmail Michael to search for it. The theme of family love and hatred is very strong in this book. Julian is supposedly the child of Genevieve but in the later part of the book, the reader would discover that Julian is actually the son of a madman and another woman who had sought the help of Genevieve to bring him up as her own. Genevieve’s love for the mother made her take care of her as well as her son. He also has a brother wh

Review: Nature Republic Peeling Foot Mask

Time to use my haul from Korea Trip! I have really bought too much stuff in Korea, and am still using everything! Alamak! Apparently the foot mask cannot be kept for too long, as the expiry date for mine is Oct 2014. Since I have to wear flats to work nowadays, I now have callus on my feet! @@ Gone were the days where I wear my sports shoes to work >.< This is how it looks like when worn.  The instructions say that I have to wear it for 60-90 mins, depending on the skin condition. I have really really sensitive skin, and eczema on my leg too, so I will wear it for 60 mins to try it out. I am really just too lazy to do testing beforehand. There will be a line to cut open the "socks" to put your feet in. I don't really like the size of the "socks". It's too big for me, and I have to waddle around the house. Haiz. The inside of the "socks" is watery, and it stings when I put it in. *Not a good sign*  After 60 minutes, I fe

The big hoo-ha about the Malaysian sex bloggers

According to stomp: Malaysian sex blogger couple Alvivi are apparently on the verge of going their seperate ways according to a post on their facebook page. On Wednesday (Jan 1), a post was uploaded on Alvivi's -- which is an abbreviation of their names, Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee -- page which read: "Alvivi is...going to split soon. Thanks for following us, but this is the end. #ThatsIt". The pair rose to infamy after a blog containing entries about their sexual exploits was revealed. They are also currently facing trial in Malaysia over an offensive Ramadan greeting. According to news reports, their relationship has been said to be non the rocks after Tan, 25, found out that Lee, 24, had cheated on him with another man. He had reportedly said than that he was ready to call time on their relationship "because this had been happening again and again and again", reported The Star. "Even 'non-exclusivity' has degrees. If hanky-panky happe

2nd appointment at Blue Bay Wedding Delfi Orchard

we went over to the Delfi branch at 8pm on a Sunday.  There wasn't any people instead of us. Actually, both of us felt quite bad as the two salespeople in the shop were having their dinner and we interrupted them.  Anyway, our agenda was to tell them more about our expectations of the photoshoot as well as to confirm the timing with them. we have set the date of the photoshoot as 30th april 2014, one day after we touch down from the plane. I want to take photos of the sandy beach and blue skies, while PL wants to have quirky shots, esp with the motorbikes. the salesperson, Olivia, told us to have a Plan B, and she took the time to show us the different photostyles that we might like. PL is also interested in the street style but I guess it was just alright for me. As I was hooked on the sandy beaches, Olivia told me that I can go on the Danshui-YangMingshan route as the scenery is perfect for the stuff that I want. She also recommended that I can shoot with the water lilies a

Disappointing customer service from Mum's Kitchen Catering

As Mum's Kitchen Catering is one of the official caterer from Chevrons, we went to have a look at their website for their wedding catering packages. As we are not doing some fanciful ROM, we wanted to keep our costs down and get a buffet dinner for our guests. We saw this wedding menu B and thought that it was not bad.   http://www.mumskitchen.com.sg/wedding-menu-b.html We were quite happy when we saw the complimentary service provided and proceeded to call them to enquire about the menu, and the complimentary service. When we told the staff that we want to get the church wedding menu, they told us no. PL asked them the reason why as there is no difference in cost for the caterer. They gave the reason as they need one day before to set up and do the wedding theme decoration. We tried to negotiate with her, and told her that we can we can forgo the wedding decoration, and actually we only wanted to have the uniformed service staff in attendance as they can help to replenish

Review: Game Runner by B.R. Collins

I honestly love the concept, but I can't say the same about the writing style and the contents itself. It caught my eye as there is a gaming element to it. Rick, the male protagonist, is the boy who runs the maze (a virtual reality game) as a tester. His dad is the one who created this game, and he is not allowed to let anyone win the game. If it happened, both of them would be kicked out into the polluted world (outside of the complex that they are living) and they will die. The story is under developed, and there was no clear explanation of all the happenings. Why is the maze created? And how do they change the items that they looted from the Maze to reality? Why are there basic rations? Who are the other people who can go around in the polluted world while Rick can't? There are just so many unanswered questions. I didn't like the ending either. Everything was just so abrupt and it just ended. I hope there is a sequel and maybe that will explain things bette
