Learning mandarin in an engaging way: Ihuman Chinese App (洪恩识字)

Being parents, one area which we are very concerned about is the amount of Chinese Hunter is exposed to. I came from a dialect speaking family, and PL speaks mostly English at home too. So we hope to give Hunter a Mandarin speaking environment (much to the chagrin of many people) since we tend to mix some English vocabulary into our daily Mandarin conversation. Friends and neighbours recommended the Ihuman Chinese app to us, raving about its effectiveness. We tried out the trial version, and eventually paid a lifetime subscription for it after much deliberation. Payment First, I must state that the payment method is very efficient for apple users who can read Chinese, but not so much for non-Chinese since all the instructions are in Chinese. It is also relatively cheap as we are able to subscribe to a lifetime membership. If Hunter uses it consistently, we would reap ALOT of benefits since they teach up to 1300 words. (If Hunter learns a word a day, that's going to be about 3.5 yea...

Updates: Our Children House Montessori Preschool (9 months mark)

It has been a while since I last updated about Hunter's preschool. Recently, we had a PTM and I am very glad to say that Hunter has significant improvement ever since he switched out from the POP preschool that he attended previously . Background A poll that I did previously with my family and friends showed that their preference is to put the kid near home, so that it's more convenient for fetching back and forth. We took their advice and enrolled Hunter in a nearby preschool, thinking that we can save trouble for my parents.  Everything was great for IFC and the teachers were very caring and responsive. It started going downhill when the school switched to becoming a POP preschool. It may be because of the change in environment, but Hunter started biting other kids when he went upstairs in PG. The teachers also informed that he cried uncontrollably when separated from the IFC teachers. It became so bad that Hunter was suspended from school for 2 weeks (unfortunately at a ti...

Review: Spa central batam at Batam

JH, Carmen, PL and I went for a short batam trip in July 2016. While surfing the net, I came across this spa and massage place, Spa Central Batam , on tripadvisor that is supposed to be good. Since we are suckers for massages, we decided to give it a try. I sent a whatsapp message to the number given on the website in the middle of the night as it was a very last minute decision and they replied really fast in the late morning. Thumbs up for their service. Similarly, when we reached the batam centre terminal, even though we had choppy wifi, we managed to make contact with the contact person for them to bring us to the massage place. Again, we felt that the service was good. They use a taxi service to bring us to the massage place. When we reached Spa Central Batam, we realised that it is located on the 2nd floor. Stepping in, we were greeted by warm receptionists and they led us to a sitting area with water. Also, they passed us the spa and massage menu. All of us chose a ma...

Review: Learning spanish with Wlingua Spanish

It has already been a dream of mine to learn Spanish but due to the astronomical cost involved in picking up Spanish at a language school ( I was looking at las lilas school ), I gave up. So, while I was randomly surfing the net, I came across this app, Wlingua Spanish , which has a 7 days free premium trial and it seems to have quite good reviews on google play. As such, I downloaded the app and started using it. What can I say, it's awesome! I don't know how the basic plan looks like since I am still on my premium trial, but the layout of the course is really pretty good. According to the app, it covers up to B1 of the Spanish course, which equates to around 3 years of study in a language school. That's more than good enough for beginners like us. Below is a screenshot of my progress in 4 days, and I have been spending around 4-5 hours each day on this app. It seems like I got to take a long time even before I can complete the A1 course. T.T This app has a rewar...

Our chosen pictures from Bluebay Wedding photoshoot

We are finally done with the editing of our wedding photoshoot pictures! Disclaimer: We were the ones who dragged it out so long, and Bluebay had sent us numerous reminders to ensure that we are doing our share of work. I really have to give a thumbs up to their service! Since we have already paid in full for our package, they could have just "forgot" to continue but they were more anxious than us! I must also admit, we really took our time. Our pictures are also atypical of the usual photoshoots so we kind of had a hard time trying to communicate with the photographer the style that we wanted. But it was all good in the end :) So, here goes! Me pointing a finger to PL's nose while he made his unhappy face Trying to act cool in this photo Eloping in happiness! My dark prince has come to fetch me to my new home~ Begging him to accept my love on my knees Trying to strangle him when he made me unhappy But true love still prevails~ Or ...
