As a first time mum (FTM), I was very nervous when it comes down to the D-day. This was especially so as H had been turning around non-stop during the last few weeks of the 3rd trimester. It was a roller coaster ride in the literal sense, to the extent that a C-section was scheduled and cancelled.
So, in the end, the D-day came about because the doctor (Dr Tan) decided that we couldn't wait anymore and H has to be induced out. This was contrary to the initial worry that he would come out early.
So, on a Friday night, we checked in to TMC and I spent the night in the waiting room for the induction of the delivery. (I asked the Hubby to go back home as it was going to take a long time.)
I even brought a book along to chill as the Dr Tan told us that he expected the delivery to take place around Sat afternoon. So, I was sharing the room with another person and it was honestly pretty scary, with some others moaning in their pain. In addition, the room was damn cold. The nurses were pretty nice and brought me warm blankets.
The night was uneventful but I was a little disappointed that they missed my breakfast. I had to call the nurses to ask about my breakfast and it only served at about 9am right before they shifted me to my 2 bedded room. The reason for the shift is because it seemed like the inducement of labour is not working and it looked like it was going to be a long stretch before H is out.
Hubby came back about 11am and met me in the room. At that point in time, I was still not feeling much contractions and the doctor advised me to walk around. So, we went around to familiarise ourselves with TMC as we only did one maternity tour and that was a few months back when we signed up for the maternity seminar.
At about 2+, the contractions started to become closer ( it felt like menstrual cramps at this point) but I was still able to talk normally as it was still bearable. It only became worse at about 4+ when the contractions became about 1 min apart. That was quite bad. I would say that the pain was about 5/10 and when the doctor came, he mentioned that the dilation was about 1cm. (Whut?!!)
With no choice but to wait, I just stayed in bed and tried to sleep as it sounded like it was going to be a long wait. At about 8-9pm, the pain was getting progressive worse and I was only at the 3cm dilation point.
The plan of not using an epidural went down the drain as I requested for it to cope with the pain. It was at this point when I understood why the epidural is so popular as I would do almost anything to get rid of the cramps. It wasn't the intensity of the pain but the duration of it. After experiencing about 4-5 hours where the contractions are less than a min apart, I didn't even had the mood to eat anything.
With the epidural pumped into me, I settled into sleep until about midnight when they pushed me into the labour ward. The dilation was about 8cm at that point in time and I was hopeful that the delivery would be soon. Hubby was awarded his crown lounge chair and he started napping there before I did. T.T
At about 4.30am, Dr Tan came and checked on me. He announced that the dilation has reached 10cm and my body is prepped for delivery. Long story short, I pushed for about an hour before Dr Tan checked on the status and decided that an emergency C-section was neccessary. Apparently, H's head was tilted sideway halfway through the delivery and refused to budge. Such a mischievous kid at such a tender age. OMG.
So, he came out at about 6+am via emergency C-section after burning a big hole in our pockets.
Welcome to the world, H <3 <3 <3
